Oregon Mutual Insurance
Project Details
Group Mackenzie provided full architecture, engineering, and interior design services for this three-story, 60,000 SF office building. Founded in 1894, Oregon Mutual Insurance is one of the state’s oldest companies. As such, OMI sought to convey a sense of permanence with this latest addition to the corporate campus. The design needed to fit the context of the neighboring historic downtown core and complement the adjacent limestone building constructed in the early 1900s.
The building features a skin of painted, site-cast concrete tilt panels over a steel frame. Site constraints required careful staging of the project and dictated that panels be stacked three to four high prior to tilt. The panel engineering pushed the limits of thickness and height to maximize value for the client. The tilt walls provide seismic support and allow for the absence of brace frames within the structure. This, in turn, creates greater flexibility within the open office space.
